NGO “New Horizon”, in partnership with NGO “Tolerance Corner”, has launched the implementation of the project “CrossKultura – Horizon of Understanding”, which aims to empower young people from Ulcinj and Bar through the promotion of intercultural dialogue, tolerance, and respect for diversity. The project is funded by the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights.
Over the next 11 months, 25 young activists will attend the School of Intercultural Dialogue, a non-formal educational program where they will learn about human and minority rights, overcoming prejudice, non-violent communication, democratic principles, and active citizenship.
In addition, the project will include joint meetings and study visits for young people, awareness-raising campaigns, and intercultural events. At the final activity, participants who successfully complete the program will be awarded certificates of participation in the project.
Through these activities, participating young people will:
-
develop knowledge and competencies related to interculturalism and human and minority rights;
-
recognize their role in building a democratic and inclusive society;
-
establish cooperation and exchange experiences with peers from different communities;
-
contribute to raising public awareness of coexistence and reducing ethnic distance.
All these activities will contribute to the overall goal of the project – educating young people about intercultural values and empowering them to promote and practice in everyday life the concepts of tolerance, diversity, and understanding in a multiethnic society.
The project is of particular importance for multicultural communities such as Ulcinj and Bar, where ethnic and linguistic diversity represents a valuable asset that should be preserved. Through education, joint meetings, and shared initiatives, “CrossKultura” will contribute to reducing ethnic distance, strengthening mutual trust, and building an inclusive society.
PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION
- Inauguration of the CrossKultura Project.
On July 30, 2025, at the “House of Europe” in Bar, the project “𝗖𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗞𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮 – 𝗛𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴” was officially inaugurated. The project is implemented by our organization with the support of the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights.
The main goal of the project is to educate young people about intercultural values and to empower them to promote and practice the concepts of tolerance, diversity, and understanding in a multi-ethnic society.
As part of the project “𝗖𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗞𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮 – 𝗛𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴”, which aims to strengthen intercultural dialogue and cooperation among young people, on November 7, 2025, we organized a training session at the Bar Youth Center with the participation of high school students from Ulcinj and Bar.
🎯 The activity focused on developing skills for intercultural communication and mutual understanding among young people.
🗣️ The workshop was conducted in an interactive format, giving young participants the opportunity to share their experiences, learn about other cultures, and reflect on the importance of respect and tolerance in a diverse society.
As part of the project “CrossKultura – Horizon of Understanding,” the third workshop was held on February 10, 2026, at the European House in Bar. The event brought together students from the JU Mixed Secondary School “Vllazërim Bashkim” in Ulcinj and the JU Secondary School of Economics and Hospitality in Bar.
During the two-hour session, titled “Overcoming Stereotypes and Building an Inclusive Society,” 25 students engaged in creative brainstorming and practical activities aimed at strengthening tolerance and fostering intercultural dialogue within their communities.
At the beginning of the workshop, Admira Metović, Youth Program Coordinator at the NGO “New Horizon” from Ulcinj, briefly revisited the topics previously addressed within the project. Meanwhile, Nazif Velić, the organization’s Executive Director, outlined the upcoming phases of the initiative and highlighted the importance of youth cultural engagement in promoting meaningful social change.
The workshop activities, which focused on creatively addressing the challenges of living in multicultural communities, were designed and carried out in collaboration with the students by Professor Nedeljko Djurović.
This project, supported by the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights, contributes to building a more inclusive environment for young people in Montenegro, empowering them as promoters of intercultural dialogue and understanding ✨.
