{"id":2835,"date":"2008-09-10T22:44:01","date_gmt":"2008-09-10T21:44:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ngo-horizonti.org\/en\/?p=2835"},"modified":"2015-12-20T23:12:07","modified_gmt":"2015-12-20T22:12:07","slug":"projects-2000-2008","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ngo-horizonti.org\/en\/projects-2000-2008\/","title":{"rendered":"Projects 2000-2008"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">New Horizon&#8217;s\u00a0initial mission was integration of the Albanian family in the larger\u00a0European family through its contribution to development of civil society in Montenegro.<\/p>\n<p>The main goals of the organization are:<br \/>\n&#8211; to\u00a0improve the position of Albanian family in Montenegro\u037e<br \/>\n&#8211; to\u00a0educate, emancipate, and prosper the Albanian family in Montenegro\u037e<br \/>\n&#8211; to\u00a0promote its communication with other in the region\u037e<br \/>\n&#8211; to\u00a0contribute to its involvement in contemporary developments\u037e and<br \/>\n&#8211; to\u00a0contribute to the developments of inter&#8217;ethnic\u00a0relations, dialogue, and tolerance.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At the beginning of 2000, the association opened the first women education club in\u00a0Ulqin. In the framework of this club, the association organized different activities\u00a0including: computer, foreign language, journalism, sewing courses\u037e counseling\u037e\u00a0information sessions during weekends\u037e publication of information guides, education\u00a0brochures, etc. The Club was funded until 2004 by the Swedish foundation KVINNA TILL\u00a0KVINNA.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During <strong>2000 &#8211; 2001<\/strong>,\u00a0NH has implemented two main projects: <strong>\u201cPreventing early\u00a0marriages\u201d<\/strong> that was supported by Open Society Institute Podgorica\u037e and <strong>\u201cPosition of\u00a0Albanian women in Montenegro\u201d<\/strong> funded by OHCHR.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During 2001\u00a0&#8211;\u00a02002, NH implemented the project <strong>\u201cSupport to women with social\u00a0and economic problems and their children\u201d<\/strong> focusing on free counseling,\u00a0gynecological visits, pediatric visits and counseling, and legal aid.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the field of inter-ethnic\u00a0relations, NH has realized several activities to promote human\u00a0rights, minority rights, women rights, and development of civil society.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During 2000 &#8211; 2001,\u00a0NH implemented the project <strong>\u201cCoexistence\u00a0and building the\u00a0future\u201d focusing on a series of four seminars\u00a0\u201cHuman Rights minority\u00a0rights\u201d,\u00a0\u201cThe war and its consequences in multiethnic areas\u201d, \u201cHuman Rights &#8211; Women\u00a0Rights\u201d and \u201cThe role of NGOs\u00a0in building a civil society\u201d<\/strong>. This project was\u00a0funded by Westminster Foundation for Democracy, London.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During <strong>1999 \u2013 2005<\/strong> New Horizon worked in youth education programs which\u00a0included <strong>anti-trafficking\u00a0education, anti drugs\u00a0education, non formal\u00a0education<\/strong>, etc. These projects were supported by: Malteser, GFW, USAID, Mama Cash,\u00a0NEWW Book &amp; Journal Project, etc.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During <strong>2003 &#8211; 2005<\/strong>,\u00a0NH extended its activity outside Montenegro. Several\u00a0education\/awareness projects focusing on <strong>anti-trafficking\u00a0of human beings and\u00a0development of cross-border\u00a0cooperation<\/strong> are implemented in partnership with two\u00a0organizations in Shkodra (Albania) \u2014 Human Dimension (Dimension Human) and Gruaja\u00a0tek Gruaja.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Since <strong>2003<\/strong>, when the Law on local government was approved and respective reforms\u00a0began in Montenegro, NH also focused on good governance promotion. In this context,\u00a0there were realized several projects:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u201cHow does local government work\u201d<\/strong> (2003)\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0was a pilot project supported by OSCE (Office in Montenegro), which consisted on\u00a0exploring of a public opinion \u2013 enquiries, in Ulcinj.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u201cLocal government serving citizens\u201d<\/strong> (2004 \u2013 2005) &#8211;\u00a0an annual project compassed with educational panel discussions, mass media\u00a0performances, exploring of a public opinion, cycle of round tables and lectures, publish\u00a0actions. The project was realized by the financial support of The Balkan Trust for\u00a0Democracy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u201cCitizens evaluate Local Police work\u201d<\/strong> (2004)- the project consisted on exploring of the public opinion through questionnaires about\u00a0Local Police operation in Ulcinj. (for the first time in Montenegro).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u201cActive citizens \u2013 good local governance\u201d<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0the project was realized through: educational panel discussions, mass media\u00a0performances, exploring of the public opinion \u2013 inquiries, round tables and lectures,\u00a0brochures and handout publishing, press conferences, field activities and alike.\u00a0The project was realized by the financial support of The Balkan Trust for Democracy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u201cGood preparation for\u00a0good governance\u201d<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0an intensive program with representatives of Local Community units, members of nongovernmental\u00a0organizations and non formal\u00a0citizen groups, representatives of local\u00a0business sector, media representatives to promote good governance principles and active\u00a0citizenship, supported by Rockefeller Brothers Fund.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u201cLocal Parliamentarism Promotion\u201d<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0the Project was dedicated to the members of Local Parliament and supported by\u00a0Municipality of Ulcinj.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For involving the local community in the social process, we realized the following\u00a0projects:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u201cCommunity mobilization in the fight against Human Trafficking in Ulcinj\u00a0Municipality<\/strong>\u201d (2005 &#8211; 2008) &#8211;\u00a0the project included a cycle of educative workshops dedicated to high school students,\u00a0TV broadcasts, surveys, campaigns, round tables, etc. The project was supported by\u00a0CARE International.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u201cDrug addiction, our city&#8217;s problem too\u201d<\/strong> (2004) &#8211;\u00a0surveying students\u00a0of all schools in the Municipality of Ulcinj regarding knowledge,\u00a0presentation and usage of narcotics.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u201cThe youth and institutions\u201d<\/strong> (2006 &#8211; 2007) &#8211;\u00a0the project included visits of students in local and republican institutions and informed\u00a0them about the role of these institutions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The capacity to provoke changes and involve stakeholders also including local authorities\u00a0is one of NH\u2019s strengths.
